You Connect your device(s) to your account, when you first begin using the MatBoss App.
You should only Disconnect, then Connect to your account at the beginning of each new year, or when directed by our Customer Support team. Disconnecting, then Connecting to your account will result in a loss of any video and stats that had not been previously uploaded to your account.

Can I include my Middle School wrestlers in my account?

The short answer is yes. However, you will need to dedicate one of your Scorebooks to the Middle School so that their matches don’t get mixed in with your high school ones. Also, they will have to be added to your roster, which could result in a very long list when you’re trying to select your wrestler for a match. To alleviate these issues, we do offer a separate Middle School account for $259, to those who already have a high school account (see next FAQ).

Can we add our Middle School program to our MatBoss subscription?

The best option is to have a separate account for your Middle School level. We offer the second subscription for $259 to those who have high school MatBoss accounts. This would be a completely separate account with its own roster, schedules, statistics, etc. Contact: Sales@MatBossApp.com to purchase a $259 add-on subscription for your Middle School or junior high program.

How do I make use of the Advanced tags in the MatBoss system?

As this title implies, this is for Coaches wanting to take the MatBoss system to a more advanced level. Advanced Tags to be used, are added in My Account in your Online Account. The best explanation to using Advanced tags is illustrated in the MatBoss University Video.

How do I share wrestlers videos w/College Coaches, media or others?

You can share wrestler’s videos with College coaches, media and others:
• Log in to your online account and go to the Video page
• Set the filter at the top of the table to the wrestler you’re looking for
• Next to each match, you’ll see a checkbox. Check the matches you want to share
• Above the table, you’ll see a gray rectangle labeled “Add recipients and a message”. Click to expand
• Fill in the email address of the person you want to share the matches, and a short message if you want
• Click “Share Selected Matches” and an email will be sent to that person with a link to those matches

System Requirements

What are the system requirements for my Online Account?

To access your online account, you will need to use Google Chrome or Firefox from a computer or mobile device. Safari and Internet Explorer are not compatible with MatBoss.

Is there a limit on the amount of video I can keep in the Cloud system?

No, there is no limit to the amount of video. As long as your program stays with MatBoss, the Stats and Video will always be accessible.

How much storage will I need on my device?

An empty device with 16 GB of storage will hold 40-50 matches. You can see how much storage your device has free in the settings or there is a yellow bar that shows up on the match recording screen above the opponents name and shows like a gas gauge for storage.

What iPad and system requirements are recommended?

Apple iPad with a minimum of 16 GB of available storage, running iOS 10 or higher, and the most current version of the MatBoss app. If you are looking to use the 4K recording option, you will need to use an iPad Pro with 4K capabilities (not all iPad pros have this ability).
Current Recommended Device: Apple’s newest iPad 10.2” (released 9/30/19), 32 GB, WiFi only, would be our recommendation if purchasing a new iPad.

I have an older iPad that will not update to the latest version of MatBoss.  Are there any MBU Videos that deal with the previous version?

Our previous MBU Videos should help answer those questions for you. Here’s the link to videos illustrating Version 6:  MatBoss University Videos.

Why does the MatBoss Viewer App say: “Viewer Beta has expired”?

Since the new version of the app allows for watching all video, the MatBoss Viewer app has been discontinued. The users area of our website has gotten a facelift as well, and went live last April. It now works very well with phones (another reason why the Viewer app was discontinued), so your wrestlers will be able to use a regular web browser app on their phones to access video.

How many mobile devices am I allowed to use with my account?

You may use an unlimited number of recording devices with your account. They must meet the minimum requirements as listed above and be connected to your account.

Does MatBoss sell Cases, lenses and tripods for mobile devices?

We no longer carry the cases and lenses for mobile devices. However, to improve a more steady video recording, we suggest using a case mounted to a tripod (if allowed) for your mobile device.  2 X Telephoto lenses are also available for most cases. We often recommend the iOgrapher brand in which you can also purchase additional zooming lenses.

How many iPads am I allowed to use with my account?

You may use an unlimited number of iPads with your account. They must meet the minimum requirements as listed above and be connected to your account.

What iPad model do you recommend?

Most iPad models work well with MatBoss. We are finding, however, that the older models have become obsolete. So we recommend the iPad Mini 2, Mini 3, Mini 4, Air, Air 2, the iPad 3rd Generation, iPad 4th Generation or iPad Pro (although it is a nice device, we do not recommend the larger iPad Pro because it is too large for most tripods).

Editing Matches

How do I add Match Stats without the Video being recorded?

You are able to add the Scoring events to matches, either before or after Uploading, even if you were unable to record video.
In the App:
• Go to the Event, “+ Add a Match”, Fill in the wrestler and weight class info
• Score the match without recording the video
• Open the side nav using the hamburger menu and choose ‘Sync with Online Account’
In your Online Account:
• Log into your Online Account, Go to the Event, “+ Add a Match”
• Fill in the wrestler and weight class info
• Score the match

For iPads: Is it possible to record matches without sound?

In order for the sound to be muted, you need to have the microphone Off for the MatBoss app:
• Go into the iPad Settings
• On the left side, scroll down to MatBoss app
• On the right of the MatBoss icon, turn the Microphone Off
Recording of Videos without sound, will actually decrease the video file size by 30% and aid in the Upload Speed.

How do I Override Team Points for unsportsmanlike conduct?

In your Online Account, in the correct Scorebook, Open the Event.
• Find the last match that was Won by the team being penalized and open it
• Click the checkbox in the lower-right of the match viewer, “Override Team Points”
• Change the points to 1 (one) less than showing
• Click on “Save Changes” button in the left side

How do I Override Team Points to award the winner by tie-breaker?

Log into your online account
• In the Correct Scorebook, go to correct Event
• Go to the last match WON by the winning team and open it
• In lower right corner is a checkbox, with a label that says ‘Override Team Points’
• Make sure that box is checked and then
• Fill in a value that is 1 team point more than would normally be awarded
• Click on ‘Save Changes’ on the left side

Can I add external Video to a match that was not recorded with the MatBoss app?

The best explanation to import the videos to your matches are contained in the MatBoss Video Tutorials:
• The Videos will need to be in .mp4 format
• If they are in a different format, changing the extension at the end to .mp4 usually works
• Each match video will need to be a seperate file

How do I score a Double Forfeit for a match?

Before Uploading, on your device, in the correct Scorebook, and correct Event, click on + Add Match:
• From the pull down for Our Wrestler, select “Forfeit”
• From the pull down for Opponent, select “Forfeit” (if Roster of opponent has Not been downloaded, would need to type “Forfeit”, spelled correctly)
• Under the opponent, Click on “Touch here to finalize forfeit”
The term, Double Forfeit, will appear under the thumbnail, and no score is awarded.

How do I use the Zoom feature within the app on an iPad?

If your device has Zoom video capability, during the recording of a match, use 2 fingers (spread apart slowly) on the screen to zoom. It is recommended to be sure the Auto Focus is turned off in the Manage Video of the MatBoss Settings screen. We also recommend using a mobile device case and tripod for steady recording.

What is the Flag icon located on the left on the Recording page and how can it be used?

The flag can be used for critiquing any points in the match. When clicked on, the Flag timestamps onto the video with the term, Mark. During the playback, the word Mark, can be changed to terminology that critiques that point of the match. To change the terminology:
• Click and hold on the Mark scoring symbol
• Click on the Symbol location and the keyboard appears
• You may change Mark to any info that you would like to convey to your wrestler
• The terminology you choose, will appear in the timeline and, like any scoring symbol, can be clicked on to move to that point in the video
• Any Coach’s audio (if microphone is turned On), that can be picked up, will also play during that time

How do I add Telestrations/Sketches and Notes to the match for the wrestler to see?

This process can be done on both the device and in your Online Account. The best explanation is in our MatBoss University Videos.

Uploading Video and Stats

What is the best way to determine the location I should Upload the Events?

Usually schools are more reliable than home WiFi, unless Firewalls prevent the Upload process. Even though the Match Videos are compressed in the MatBoss system, they are large files that may take several hours to Upload. In order to have the Upload proceed as smoothly as possible:
• It is best to find the most stable WiFi connection location to perform the Upload.
• Using a free app such as Ookla, run the Speed test to determine the Upload Speed, in the location you prefer to perform the Upload, and at the time you plan to Upload.
• A steady speed of 10 mbps and higher is the recommended minimum.
• You should test other locations to find the BEST place to Upload.

After uploading, the list of matches doesn’t show up, but the iPad is indicating that everything has been uploaded. What should I do?

This is usually a problem with a firewall. Here is the information you can give to your IT person so they can ‘whitelist’ anything coming from MatBoss.  The asterisks in the info below need to be included (they’re called wildcards, and the IT person will know what that means):

Firewall Info:

When and how should I Clear Video off of the recording devices?

When Events have successfully Uploaded to your Online Account (check to be sure all videos have uploaded):
• Complete Events can be cleared off the devices after the successful Upload:

1. Go to the Scorebook, select the correct level
2. Lightly touch on the Event, slide to the left and click on Clear Video
3. The icon to the left of each weight class will change from device icon to download icon (accessing the internet to get the video)

• Individual Matches can be cleared off the devices after the successful upload:

1. Go to the Scorebook, select the correct level
2. Click on Event Details
3. Lightly touch on the Match, slide to the left and click on Clear Video

It is necessary to Clear Videos from the devices, making room for next events and keeping the devices running smoothly.

Trackwrestling: Importing/Exporting

Our team is participating in a dual tournament, and I won’t know our opponents until the day of the tournament. How should I handle creating and recording the event(s)?

With dual meet tournaments, individual duals will not show up in the import from TrackWrestling because MatBoss treats every individual dual meet as a separate event. Since the dual meets in those tournaments have not been created yet, the event is basically empty and there isn’t anything to import. Since you probably don’t know who you’ll be wrestling until that day, here are the instructions for creating, recording and uploading the Event:
• On your recording device, go to your correct Scorebook, click on “Add Event” (upper right) and enter the correct information.
• Create and record the matches as normal for the Event.
• Make sure that there is a corresponding dual meet in your TW schedule for each of the duals you recorded.
• Export the event using either the app or your online account.

Some of our Varsity or JV Events were imported into the 3rd level Scorebook, why is that and how do I move them to the correct Scorebook?

The link between TrackWrestling and MatBoss is such that Events designated as Varsity in TrackWrestling, import into the 1st Scorebook level in MB. Events as JV in TrackWrestling import into the 2nd level in MB. If Events in TrackWrestling are not designated for either Varsity or JV, they will default into the 3rd level in MB. Those Events need to be moved one event at a time. You will need to log into your Online Account. To move an Event from one Scorebook to another:
• Go to the Event you wish to move
• To the far right of the event, click on “Edit”
• Scroll down to the Level, change to the correct Level
• Click on the “Save” button at the bottom

If I’m in a tournament being run with TrackWrestling, do I need to export my matches into Track’s system?

You will not need to export your stats to TrackWrestling for those events run by TrackWrestling. You will be able to verify that the Stats are correct w/MatBoss and have Video proof if there are any errors.

Our team is in a tournament being run with TrackWrestling, can the match data be imported into MatBoss?

Not at this time. We will look to this possibility in a future upgrade.

When will I receive our Login information from Trackwrestling?

Your login information from TrackWrestling is sent from their system by your State’s governing body. If you haven’t received your info yet, first check your spam folder. If you still don’t find it, contact TW support: http://www.trackwrestling.com/tickets

When will the Stats program in TrackWrestling be available?

Your Stats package in Trackwrestling is included in your MatBoss subscription.
We send an update to TrackWrestling on a regular basis. Until that point, you can still log into TW, enter your schedule, roster, etc. When you log in, if you receive an alert saying you can order the statistics package, just click ‘Skip’ and bypass it. In other words, you can do EVERYTHING in your TrackWrestling account without having the Statistics program enabled, except get reports. If you know that your invoice has been paid, submit a Support ticket and we will follow up with our business department.
